Please join us for a treasured spring ritual, planting seeds! Even as the weather shifts from cold and blustery to warm and sunny and back again, we are imagining our summer gardens filled with colorful flowers, the scent of herbs, and the bounty of fresh vegetables. We will have all the necessary supplies, from seeds to soil to pots. We'll be in the "Sunshine Room" near the back of the building - come and play in the dirt!
Burlington City Arts is offering a family-friendly workshop here at the Heineberg, with fiber artist Allison Ruarks. Participants will make colorful yarn pom-poms that will be incorporated into a public art installation and displayed along North Avenue throughout April. This all-ages event is free, with materials and instruction provided—come be a part of a collaborative public art experience!
Artist Allison Ruarks celebrates the shift from winter to spring with her temporary installation, Pom Pom Pop-up, a corridor of brightly colored yarn pom-poms. Created through both the artist’s vision and community participation, this installation brings vibrancy to the North Avenue corridor while showcasing the power of public art to enrich shared spaces and foster a sense of belonging. Whether evoking the first blooms of spring, a flurry of snowflakes, or the interconnectedness of community, Pom Pom Pop-up invites conversation on how creativity can make our city more vibrant and connected.
This project is part of planBTV: New North End and was made possible through a partnership between the Burlington Department of Planning, Burlington City Arts, and Parks, Recreation & Waterfront, with funding provided by AARP-VT.

"This place has been a godsend. We moved here seven years ago, and it's hard to make new friends when you're 80! I've met so many wonderful people, and it's like a support group for me." ~ anonymous participant
"I just finished a Flow Singing month at the Heineberg Community Senior Center, and I wanted to say how wonderful it is to sing gathered in a circle in a space with a beautiful, resonant wood floor. I love that the building was built in 1941 by NNE volunteers with donated materials with the intent of supporting community connection and activity. Our Flow Singing circle this month had people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s singing together and connecting. I see people going to Bone Builders classes Tai Chi and Yoga, not to mention all the ongoing activity going on downstairs! Seems like the intent of the building is being met in so many ways. ~ Patricia Norton, Juneberry Music
The Heineberg Community Senior Center, established in 1971, is an independent, community-based non-profit serving more than 600 older Vermonters every year.
Our mission is to support the social, physical, and emotional well-being of community members ages 50+. We offer free, donation-based programs, meals, and activities to reduce isolation, develop friendships, strengthen bones, maintain balance and flexibility, access nutritious food, improve social connections, and share laughter and life experiences.
As an independent 501(c)3 non-profit, donations support our free meals and activities for Chittenden County seniors.
Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or sharing information about our programs through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
